Living ~400lbs

… and believe me I am still alive

Thankful Thursday

[a not-always-weekly exercise in gratitude]

1) Getting a bonus at work this year :)

2) Laughing at this post from Men-in-Full.  “Someplace happier” indeed.

3) Being able to get around without the cane most of the time.

4) Nifty lycra-spandex leggings.  They’re not just comfy for exercise, they also make great long underwear!

5) The man of the house, who brought me dinner tonight :)

  1. I am always happy to see your “Lessons in gratitude” posts. They make me smile. :)

Also, I am glad to see you posting again. I hope it was a rejuvenating vacation for you and that the holidays are the best ever. From reading your posts, and your positive nature, I am sure you will overcome your latest knee issues. You are stronger in more ways than one…and inspire me to at least try. I am in one of my funks lately and trying hard to shake it. This blog helps and I am grateful.

  2. 1) That IS something to be thankful for! No one at my office is getting bonuses this year, and pay raises have been frozen this year as well…oi.

    2) Naked people = win

    3) YAY! Have you been doing specific strengthening exercises or something? (forgive me if you’ve mentioned this, I’ve been occupied with projects for the past month or so)

    4) I’m totally going to try that out! Thanks! Lately, the wind’s been going right through my pants and it’s almost painful. I’ve been wondering where to get longjohns, but I’m too lazy to go shopping…

    5) What was it?

    1. 3) Strength training and a short daily couple-block’s walk. Strength training is the leg lifts I’ve done before and the “chair squats” described here.

I also quit using the (too-small) desk chair with arms at work. I think that was putting a slight pressure on my legs that wasn’t helpful.

      5) Leftover finger food from his company party – pita with hummus, some pizza, and steamed veggies :)

  3. I saw that post from Men-In-Full too. It made my day.

  4. I’m thankful that last weekend I lost almost 200 pounds of dead weight around my neck in a single afternoon!

See, my brother moved in for ‘a month or two’ while he got his act back together. He’s finally gone after five and a half years. During that time, I put up with an amount of emotional abuse from him that I can now only fume about.

He left on saturday. He will never spend more than 24 hours under my roof at a time again.

I wish I didn’t feel so good about my brother leaving, but I’ve been doing jigs and getting back in touch with my own creativity again. Mr. Twistie’s blood sugar and blood pressure have both gone down a surprising number of points, and even the cat is calmer.

    Life is officially good.

  5. Awww, thanks for the kind words!
