Firstly, I LOVE your blog. It has helped me so much in my recovery from orthorexia.

Secondly, have you tried natural progesterone cream? Or herbs to reduce oestrogen dominance? Both of these tend to help period problems.

I’m 56 and I’m not done yet! Arg. And yes, I’ve tried progesterone cream and testosterone cream. Makes me hairy. That’s all.

I also have to be super careful playing with hormones since I relapse into hyperthyroidism very easily, which can be pretty horrible. When I relapsed in November, I almost died as I was scheduled for surgery and could have gone into a thyroid storm on the operating table. It also plunged me into a serious depression (one of the symptoms is extreme anxiety).

I had a blessed six months without a period and now it’s come back. I guess if this keeps going on, I’ll check in with my GP. I’m at my wit’s end.

I started at 11 and I’ll be 48 in 9 days and I feel your pain. My period started this morning.

I started at 12, had two normal pregnancies & deliveries, extended breastfeeding, no history of any gynecological problems, & I started having perimenopausal symptoms around age 47 & had my last period at age 57. My mother had periods until she had a hysterectomy at age 61.

I ask myself the same question every month. Every. Single. Month.

I read that the average age for menopause is about 51. Obviously, there will be many people on either side of that, since that’s an “average” age. Late 40s and early 50s seems to be the most common, with other ages being more statistical outliers (but still possible, obviously). So you probably have a few more years to go.

I have read (but not seen confirmed with actual research) that women of size tend to have a later age at menopause. Don’t know if it’s true or not, but it might make sense in terms of hormones (we tend to have more estrogen).

If anyone knows of any actual research on this in women of size, I’d love to see some references on the topic. I’m interested in expanding my research on health in women of size beyond pregnancy and birth and into the menopause years as well.

You’re not done because Mother Nature thinks you are an awesome human being, capable of carrying a child to term, and this is the best way she knows to reward you.
I started at nearly 14, ended at 52, and had many incidents of amenorrhea in between, thanks to PCOS. On the plus side, I haven’t had the hot flashes. In fact, my moods still cycle just as they did before, and I had to ask a gynecologist whether I really had hit menopause (having been amenorrheic at times, it was honestly hard to tell).
It can get annoying in the last few years before menopause; I had more menstrual pain then and I sympathize with you when you ask when is this damn nuisance gonna quit already?!

I think you’re kinda young for menopause. :O

I started when I was 7. I’d like to know if that means I get to stop extra early, but no one seems to know!

My doctor did tell me that I want to have my period as long as possible for heart health. I’m having wonky-ness, but no stopping! Plus I seem to have PMS every single day…

My grandma’s last period she said she thought she was going to bleed to death. I guess it was quite heavy and lasted several weeks. Don’t know her age.

I started when 13 and now am 30, and was born with an ovarian cyst (not diagnosed until age 11 when emerg. surgery found it, they thought it was appendicitis at first). I’ve only missed 2 periods, both within the last year, and a couple yrs ago there was one period that was 2 weeks late, but then everything went on normal from that one.

Isn’t it usually the earlier you start the later you finish? I started at 11. Just great.
