“It is now our generation’s task to carry on what those pioneers began. For our journey is not complete until our wives, our mothers and daughters can earn a living equal to their efforts. Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law for if we are truly created equal, then surely the love we commit to one another must be equal as well. Our journey is not complete until no citizen is forced to wait for hours to exercise the right to vote. Our journey is not complete until we find a better way to welcome the striving, hopeful immigrants who still see America as a land of opportunity until bright young students and engineers are enlisted in our workforce rather than expelled from our country. Our journey is not complete until all our children, from the streets of Detroit to the hills of Appalachia, to the quiet lanes of Newtown, know that they are cared for and cherished and always safe from harm.”
— President Obama, in his second inaugural address
The US is so behind in so many ways. But this feels hopeful.
This gave me chills. Thanks for sharing!
This made me tear up with hope and joy.
Listening to Obama speak, I felt he spoke for the country I was taught I lived in as a little girl. May it be so.
He’s a good writer/speaker.
I wish he would have addressed size acceptance and discrimination against people of size as well.
I think the whole Let’s Move kinda kills that, unfortunately.
I wouldn’t say politics is a fandom, but I do find How to be a fan of problematic things relevant at times.
Hmmm why’d he sign the NDAA then which cancels the previously long held right to trial by their peers that Americans had?

This guy cares nothing about civil liberties

Why is he continuing Bush’s wars, now with 35 African countries having had troops sent to them?

I have to admit the words above are empty ones to me even if they “sound nice”.
One thing I remember the days when those on the left divide at least made a nod to civil liberties and were on the antiwar side.
Now with Obama, drones and all, I am shocked that so few see through this guy.
[just for information I never supported Bush or Romney as a candidate either]
