The western world outsources much of creating cheap clothing to poorer countries. Clothing needs humans to sew. Robots aren’t there yet for most clothing, especially in more than a limited number of sizes. Supersize/extended sizes are often not available in stores.  Even mail order is from limited sources.

We’ve all been urged to reduce and reuse/buy secondhand. In WWII there was “mend and make-do.” Now there’s visible mending.

I’m aware that at one point, most clothing was homemade or commissioned from a dressmaker or tailor. I’m not urging we return to that… but I am considering sewing some basic stretch pants.

What do you do about clothing these days? Are you finding good things secondhand? Found a cool new store?

I wish I could see my own clothes. Asking someone else to make clothes is so expensive. So caught in a catch 22, having to order clothes, does anyone know if there a companies make clothing for us extended/ssbbw sizes in the USA?

For a long time Making It Big was my go-to, and they say they’ll be taking orders in November.
