“You need to eat a sammich”
No comments on “You need to eat a sammich”This weekend those words were directed at SJ Tucker, the singer who recently had surgery. More specifically, I heard an older woman tell her: It’s good to see you looking so well. But dear, you need to eat a sandwich! I know this expression can be a joke. It can also be, perhaps, an expression of concern. But most often, it’s an expression of judgment. Your body…

Thankful Thursday
Heidi’s gratitude postings got me thinking of posting things I’m grateful, or thankful, for in my life. So here’s a few: Fantastic 4-day weekend of music and fun :) …and coworkers who kept things going when I was gone. Nifty green shoes! Compliments on my purple tie-dye shirt. Hearing SJ Tucker sing :)

The most significant “lifestyle” cause of death and disease
We focus so much on weight, especially women. Magazines, TV shows, news, advertising, government programs. We focus on diet and exercise to “improve” our weight, but really we’re trying to improve ourselves. Yet we don’t focus on getting richer or better educated.

Heidi‘s gratitude postings got me thinking of posting things I’m grateful, or thankful, for in my life. So here’s a few: Got myself psyched up and joined a gym, which gives me more options for building up muscles. Gym salesperson did not push the weight-loss routine. Fat Clothing Catalogs…
In my experience, there are two kinds of companies that put out supersize/extended-size catalogs for fat women: Large companies with mostly imported mass-produced clothing, cheap prices, and a propensity for selling their mailing lists. Often they design and produce their clothing in-house, sometimes even…

I thought this was FAB

I looked apparently happy, but upon further reflection, my breasts are slightly uneven, my skin is too dark, my knees are ugly, my hair is windblown. I looked apparently happy but I was wrong to feel that way, because look at…

These are for all of us writing out here in the Fatosphere… ;) Writing is the only profession where no one considers you ridiculous if you earn no money. – Jules Renard The only thing I was fit for was to be a writer, and this notion rested solely on my suspicion that I would never be fit for real work, and that writing didn’t require…

Nice analogy on obesity frequency
Not new, but I’m quoting it anyway because I like it :) From an article on the obesity “health crisis” in the International Journal of Epidemiology: Imagine that the average IQ was 100 and that five percent of the population had an IQ of 140 and were considered to be geniuses. Now let’s say that education improves and the average IQ increases to 107 and 10% of the population has…

“Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each.” — Henry David Thoreau …and now…the sun is shining today (not raining, not overcast, not shining through clouds and fog – shining) so I am going for a walk. Toodles!
