Thankful Thursday
4 comments on Thankful ThursdayThis is one of those weeks where I’d rather be venting about the stressy stuff and not looking for things to be grateful for. But … that’s also part of why I do it, to focus on the good instead of the bad. 1) New CPAP mask arrived from cpap.com. 2) A friend asked to borrow Lessons from the Fat-o-Sphere. 3) Advair (new preventative asthma drug…

Fat Yoga in the News
I was surprised to see an article on yoga classes that target fat people in a mainstream newspaper (in this case The New York Times). Overall it’s a good article. The main thrust is that different body types can result in needing to adapt poses. Poses considered standard for those who are fit or slim — standing with the feet together in mountain pose, kneeling with the…

HAES in the News
Marianne Kirby & Kate Harding are interviewed in Newsweek’s blog The Human Condition about their book and HAES. Hopefully it will make some people think! In the UK, The Guardian had a piece about Health At Every Size. As Big Fat Blog notes, it’s all HAES 101 stuff, but that’s why it’s good to get it out in the mainstream anyway. (Oh, and I would avoid the…

[A weekly exercise in gratitude.] 1) Had a good doc appt today, have new treatment plan for allergies & asthma. 2) The other day I had the mini-gym at work to myself, so I didn’t have to keep myself from singing along to my iPod while I was on the treadmill :) 3) The wonderful relaxation I get from stretching. 4) Hearing Carrie Fisher state that one of…

“Provocative, sensationalistic snark”
From today’s Between Friends comic: Kim: There’s a lot more to this blogging stuff than people realize. Kim: It takes more than just intelligent, interesting, critical writing to build an audience. Maeve: You mean marketing? Kim: I mean provocative, sensationalistic snark. Kim: —but marketing’s a good idea too. ;)

Lessons from the Fat-o-Sphere
Part of me wants to read (not skim) Lessons from the Fat-o-Sphere and let it marinate over the weekend and then post a comprehensive, reasoned review.

Manufacturer’s pic of my CPAP mask Sunday night (and Monday morning) I kept waking up due to my CPAP mask blowing a stream of cold air on my lip. I thought it was perhaps an inadequate seal between the rubbery “nasal pillows” and my nostrils, but futzed around and eventually got back to sleep. Monday night as I took my book to bed, I…

Super Obesity!
Apparently “morbid obesity” isn’t obese enough! Some now refer to people with a BMI of 50 or more as “super obese”. For some reason I’m finding this amazingly humorous. Suddenly I want a Supergirl costume! :) Though seriously, it does make you wonder. Medical personnel spent years cautioning me that morbid obesity was OMG so much worse than just plain obesity. Is being “superfat” somehow less deadly…
