Things I Would Like To Not Care About
27 comments on Things I Would Like To Not Care AboutI would like to not worry about: Whether a medical professional will consider my symptoms before making a diagnosis. Whether a job interviewer will not hire me because I’m fat. Whether the friend talking about her diet is doing so as a way of passive-aggressively commenting on my body size, eating habits, or perceived dieting status. Whether I will be seen as an equal partner in my…

Quote of the Day: Healthcare Providers and Expectations
From an article on healthcare providers stigmatizing fat patients: Healthcare providers also need to readjust their expectations. Getting individuals who are obese down to a normal weight isn’t realistic: Research shows that most people can’t expect to lose more than 10% of their body weight and, more important, to maintain the weight loss over time. We’re All Mad Here (and it’s okay!)
If I leave my grin behind, remind me that we’re all mad here and it’s okay! This line is from SJ Tucker‘s song Cheshire Kitten, from her new album Mischief. I first heard the song … a year ago? 18 months? SJ sang it at a concert I attended. I’ve loved “we’re all mad here / and it’s okay!” since then. To me, “we’re all mad here…

Death, not Evacuation
This is painful. I am grateful that my ARNP found my vitamin deficiencies and that I can treat them, for the surgeries and drugs that have given family members longer lives. But right now I feel I could never leave anyone I loved alone in a hospital.
