FYI: MiB has marked down some styles (including the brushstroke tee I was ogling earlier) and is offering free US shipping or $10 credit on international.  Use code FS49 at checkout. Expires Monday 9/14 at 11:59pm Pacific time. (MiB’s size range covers 2x-8x; not all styles come in the largest size.  I am in the middle of their size range.) Junonia has $10 off orders of $75-99.99,…

I recently discovered that the CDC has Anthropometric Reference Data (PDF), otherwise known as various body measurements (height, weight, waist, etc) broken down by age, gender, and percentiles. Personally I find this data fascinating.  The height tables, for example, were a wake-up call. At 68″ tall I know, intellectually, that I’m on the tall side for a woman.  But unlike, say, jr high, I feel that I’m…

[Another weekly exercise in gratitude.] 1) Being able to tell a friend “H1Nerd1 isn’t as deadly as WLS” and she got the joke. 2) Short work weeks :) 3) Tylenol, because I have a headache and having ready pain relief is a goodness. 4) Having a ready supply of clothes that fit and are comfortable, even if they’re not new and shiny. 5) My chosen family, for their love and…

Sort of.  Reuters summarized the results of Vivus’ new weight-loss drug study as follows: Vivus, whose shares shot up nearly 80 percent on the news, combined phentermine with the epilepsy drug topiramate, available generically [and as] Topamax. […] Phentermine takes an old-fashioned and logical approach to weight loss — it is a stimulant that speeds up the metabolism. Topiramate, an anti-convulsant, has been shown to interfere with binge eating…

[Looking at supersize / extended size clothing,  which is to say, clothing I can wear.  Preferably modeled by fat people] Some things I’m thinking of but not sure I need enough to buy: A purple patterned flannel shirt – Not a “typical” flannel shirt, so I’d feel less 90s in it than my plaid ones.  But collars and I don’t always get along. Blue & purple watercolor shirt…

I did not go to PAX.  I mostly play Tropico and Puzzle Pirates, not Halo and Rock Band.  I have never owned a game console. But I am geeky enough that this makes me smile. Jonathan Coulton, Paul and Storm, and Molly Lewis serenading Wil Wheaton:

“Exercise is my obsession,” states Gina Kolata on page 3 of her book Ultimate Fitness. Why does Kolata love exercise?   “I discovered that if I work out really hard and for at least forty minutes, I can sometimes reach an almost indescribable state of sheer exhilaration.”   By the end of the book Kolata admits to belonging to three gyms.  The book is nearly a love letter…

Vacation planning can include flying, and this year we’re flying about 6 hours each way.   Coach seats tend to be 17″ across.  First class can be up to 23″ wide, but  I have 68″ hips.  Now, I am an apple, so a lot of that 68″ is depth not width.  Still, even first class is a tight fit for me.  On a 6-hr flight. The man…

[Another weekly exercise in gratitude.] 1) I am thankful and honored to read the comments people have made in response to yesterday’s post. 2) Hugs from the man of the house yesterday. 3) Elevator repairs at work this week mean I’m walking more stairs.  I’m managing this MUCH better than I was afraid I would ;) 4) Experimenting with a new-to-me yoga routine from Megan Garcia’s book Megayoga. 5) I feel…

This is painful.  I am grateful that my ARNP found my vitamin deficiencies and that I can treat them, for the surgeries and drugs that have given family members longer lives. But right now I feel I could never leave anyone I loved alone in a hospital.
