Fun with Search Terms
7 comments on Fun with Search TermsWordPress tracks what people searched on that led them to this site. “Living 400lbs” is probably the most common one and one I find amazing (people are looking for me!) But some are a bit weird, anothers, well, deserve an answer. “i weigh 350 and i cant work” — Weight is not a disability. Most of the time that I weighed 350 I was working at a…

Cheezeburger on “Flat Stomach” ads
I Can Has Cheezeburger gave me a good laugh this morning: So cute. The kitty is probably keeping cool, too :)

My Dentist Doesn’t Blame Tooth Problems On My Fat
She doesn’t blame my fat for my grinding my teeth at night. She just ordered a custom bite guard. Or for my needing crowns (she blamed them on my grinding my teeth at night!) Or for my 20-year-old fillings needing replacement (they’re old!) Or even for my coffee-dulled teeth! (She offered to “whiten” them.) I’m not sure if dentistry as a whole is behind the times…

Monday Morning Smile?
Last week at work was much more on the stressful side than I wanted. Usually I pack up the week’s worries when I shut down my computer and neaten my office; this week it was Sunday before I really let go of the stress. Tomorrow I go back. So I’m going to include a few things that made me smile this weekend. Chocolate: The Consuming Passion…

Friday Fun: How’d You Find This Blog?
WordPress has lots of nifty stats for its blogs. One in particular I’ve been watching lately: Search Terms. See, if you google something and find my blog? Google passes on what you searched on, and WordPress keeps track of it (without anything about the actual users involved…though WordPress assures me it doesn’t count my visits ;) The search term results have changed a bit recently, partly because I tweaked…

“Provocative, sensationalistic snark”
From today’s Between Friends comic: Kim: There’s a lot more to this blogging stuff than people realize. Kim: It takes more than just intelligent, interesting, critical writing to build an audience. Maeve: You mean marketing? Kim: I mean provocative, sensationalistic snark. Kim: —but marketing’s a good idea too. ;)

Happy International No-Diet Day
Today’s the day (or will be soon). Anyone have plans? :) (I’m mostly going to spend it at work…deadlines… )

Super Obesity!
Apparently “morbid obesity” isn’t obese enough! Some now refer to people with a BMI of 50 or more as “super obese”. For some reason I’m finding this amazingly humorous. Suddenly I want a Supergirl costume! :) Though seriously, it does make you wonder. Medical personnel spent years cautioning me that morbid obesity was OMG so much worse than just plain obesity. Is being “superfat” somehow less deadly…

Friday Fun: Afternoon Snack
I spent the last hour at my desk, knowing I wanted a snack, but not sure if I how hungry I was. Then I knew what I wanted but didn’t want to take the time to go to the kitchen and microwave it. I had a piece of chocolate, some snack crackers….nope. Finally I sent off a couple projects and headed into the kitchen for what…

Thankful Thursday
Today I am thankful for… 1) Antihistimines and my inhaler. They help me enjoy spring and not feel like I’m sick all the time. 2) Sunshine. It is a nice change after the dark-by-4:30pm winter. 3) It appears that most of the garden survived the winter. 4) Going for a walk on a stressful day…yes, it helps me unwind. 5) Watching Matt dance. Somewhere between the music…

Incentives to lose weight?
From The Onion’s satirical corner comes this “man on the street” reaction to the news that the Army has rejected 48,000 would-be recruits for being too fat. So let’s summarize my incentives for losing weight: I’ll be hungry all the time, I’ll be tired all the time, and I’ll qualify for Army service. Not to mention increasing the risk of death, disability, and sexual assault! Gee, I wonder…

Thankful Thursday
1) I’ve got a day off! Whee, I get to play! :) 2) Knee is reminding me to walk daily in addition to other exercises. [….this is the silver lining within the cloud of “Argh, I can’t take a day (or two or five) off?”] 3) Knee is not hurting badly and I can walk with only a slight limp at times. 4) I don’t actually have any zombies to…

Health Assessments
Mcfluffy’s post in the LJ fatshionista community about health assessments, and the resulting comment thread, got me thinking. She had one very negative assessement from the website of her health insurance company; she had a very positive assessment from the “general health assessement” from another site.

Thankful Thursday
[A little exercise in gratitude and appreciating my body.] Knee is getting better (I was walking without pain for most of Wednesday! I took no ibuprofen today!) in part due to … Walking, leg lifts, “chair squats”, and other exercises from physical therapy, and … Stretching, and … Having a job and life where I can arrange do all that without having to miss work or re-injure…

Whoever got the muffins and croissants for today’s “all-hands” meeting also got fresh blueberries and sliced mixed fruit (grapes, mango, kiwi, strawberries, pineapple and mushmelon). Yum…. :)

Oh, Right
Remember the post about the FDA’s warning on weight-loss supplements? It’s receiving “comment spam” about newer, better, safer … weight-loss supplements.
